Two prominent World quarter-milers will miss the 2019 World championships.

South Africa’s Wayde van Niekerk, the Olympic and world 400 meters and world record holder will miss the games, sidelined through a torn muscular injury.

Though the runner has resumed training, both he and his doctors are of the opinion that his body is not ready for such grueling competition.

Meanwhile, 2012 Olympic 400 metre gold medalist, Grenada’s Kirani James is also doubtful.

James has not raced since July 2018 and has been sidelined with Graves Disease.

He must race by Saturday 7th September to be eligible for the World championship.

In the meantime, representatives for James and the Grenada Federation have not responded to requests for comments on his status.
