Prime Minister Extends Sympathy On The Passing Of Former Governor General Sir Carlyle Glean

Prime Minister, Dr. The Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell extends deep sympathy on the passing of former Governor-General, Sir Carlyle Glean.

Sir Carlyle died today at the age 89, after ailing for some time.

Sir Carlyle served as Governor-General from 2008 to 2013 and prior to that he was a Senator and Education Minister from 1990 to 1995.

In 1986, Sir Carlyle, who was residing abroad, returned to Grenada where he entered the political arena serving as chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party in the constituency of St. John.

Receiving news of the death, the House of Representatrives in session this morning paid tribute to the late Sir Carlyle Glean.

Prime Minister,. Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, acknowledged Sir Carlyle as a man who was passionate about education and who gave off his service in the field to the many students he interacted with.

Dr. Mitchell described Sir Carlyle as a well-respected son of the soil…a good, decent human being.

Sir Carlyle is survived by his wife, five children, family, other close relatives and friends.

In honour of the late former Governor-General, national flags on all buildings will be flown at half-mast for seven days and again during the week of the funeral.
