GRENADA TO IMPLEMENT A 90-DAY GUN AMNESTY BEGINNING MAY 1

In a significant move to curb illegal firearm possession, a 90-day gun amnesty programme will take effect here on May 1.

A resolution in this regard got its final approval at a House of Representatives meeting today.

The initiative will run through to July 30.

It’s viewed as a measure to curb gun crime which appeared rearing its ugly head in the country, affecting the safety of the State.

The 3-month amnesty will allow citizens to surrender firearms and ammunition without fear of prosecution, as a means of lessening violent gun-related crimes.

MP for the town of St. George, Peter David, in making his contribution towards the resolution, indicated that incentives are sometimes needed to get the job done.

MP David, while in agreement with the gun amnesty, also indicated that more needs to be done holistically.
