“Period Poverty” A Growing Concern In Grenada Due To Covid 19 Pandemic

The issue of menstrual health, and, in particular, what’s termed “Period poverty”, has been brought to the forefront, with the COVID-19 pandemic said to be making it difficult for a lot of young women and girls.

“Period poverty” is referred to the prevalent phenomena of being unable to afford sanitary products such as pads, tampons, or liners to manage menstrual bleeding.

Here in Grenada, Tamika Gilbert, Volunteer and Founder of The Art of Giving (TAG) charitable foundation, says the issue of “Period poverty” is on the rise.

She was speaking on Wee Fm’s mid-morning programme today with host Mikey Hutchinson.

Gilbert says her organization is doing what it can to assist but is calling on others to get onboard.

Gilbert was recently recognized by her majesty Queen Elizabeth for her voluntary service, helping families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
