LONG-STANDING GBN MANAGER PASSES

The media fraternity here was thrown into mourning, with the passing of long-standing broadcast personality, Odette Campbell.

Campbell, the Managing Director of the Grenada Broadcast Network (GBN) passed away in New York early this morning, after a rather fierce battle of prolonged leukemia.

Reports are that she died in the company of her family.

Getting into media at an early age, Campbell made her first stint in the newspaper industry with the Grenada Informer and subsequently into Radio Grenada, as she explained one time in a conversation on the social Media programme, “Dropping Bars with Kimron Corion.

Climbing up the ladder of success, Mrs. Campbell was appointed to the Grenada Broadcasting Network in 2013, an entity in transition from the Grenada Broadcasting Corporation, and 2 years later became the Managing Director.

In looking at the many stories as a result of her passing, she’s being described as a media stalwart, a veteran journalist and the likes, knowing that she has done several stints with media organizations region-wide, including the Caribbean News Agency, now the Caribbean Media Corporation.

She did indicate it was a journey of perseverance.

Long-standing media practitioner, Josephine McGuire, who’s been a mover and shaker in the Radio Grenada entity, which went through many formations, remembers Odette Campbell, being full of life.

Josephine carefully monitored Odette’s trails in the media business.

Philomena Robertson, Former Press Secretary to former Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Mitchell, at one time also shared newsroom space in the GBC, GBN outlook and remembers Odette.

Philo says it’s a huge loss and Odette will be greatly missed.

Condolences continue to pour in from near, far and wide.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says Odette was an inspiration to so many in the media fraternity and her passion was evident in all that she did.

It sees that her contributions to Grenada’s media landscape will not be forgotten and her legacy will continue to inspire others for generations to come, understanding she made a difference in the lives of so many.

The Good News Catholic Communications on behalf of Bishop Clyde Martin Harvey has offered theirsympathy to the family of Mrs. Odette Campbell and to her colleagues at GBN and the entire media fraternity, pledging their support in prayer at this time.
