Getting childhood vaccination back to where it was pre-covid times is a challenge the ministry of health intends to take on!

And, as Grenada continues to observe vaccination week 2023, Health Minister, Jonathan LaCrette, gives a commitment that his ministry will do all in its power to strengthen national immunization programmes.

According to a report from the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to major backsliding on childhood vaccinations.

The report says 23 million children missed out on basic vaccines through routine immunization services in 2020, 3.7 million more than the previous year.

Minister LaCrette, in his speech for the observance of Immunization Week, indicated that childhood vaccination in Grenada has declined by 65%.

It’s with this in mind he made a clarion call for Grenada’s vaccination programmes to get up to par.

The health minister is also encouraging individuals to get up-to-date with vaccines.

Tomorrow, as part of activities observing World
Vaccination Week, the ministry of health will stage a Community Awareness and Kid’s Fun Day.

The event is slated for the Limes pasture in Grand Anse, beginning at 9 in the morning, through 3 in the afternoon.
