HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES WILL MEET TOMORROW

Four Bills are down for discussion when MP’s in the House of Representatives meet in a Parliamentary session tomorrow.

Key among them will be the Firearms (amendment) Bill, 2024.

It brings into sharp focus the wave of gun crimes in Grenada in recent times.

The others involve the Public Procurement and disposal of public property bill 2024; the Road traffic (amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Electronic communications bill, 2024.

Looking at the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Bill 2024, there’s the expectation that the sole-sourcing threshold will be increased.

There’s been talk about suggestions to raise the figure to one hundred thousand dollars.

Prime Minister, Dickon Mitchell, is said to have made the point that the Government will be adjusting the 2014 Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property Legislation.

The former administration of the New National Party is reported to have approved the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Property in 2014 and enacted it in 2015.

It’s been part of measures to curb corruption in bidding for Government jobs and supplying goods and services.

Tomorrow’s sitting of the House of Representatives will be brought live via the GIS Facebook page, YouTube channel and local Channel 22.
