The Ministry of health says there’s no need for any panic.

Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Shawn Charles, says health surveillance officers are keeping abreast with increasing reports of the bird flu on the global level.

Under the circumstances he says his office continues to be proactive, noting that the risk in Grenada is significantly low.

On this basis, Dr. Charles says he’s in constant discussion with the Chief Veterinary Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture regarding the need to increase vigilance, as it relates to unexplained deaths in the global spectrum.

He says his office continues to be proactive.

Strains of the Avian influenza virus that primarily infect birds, can also infect humans.

This type of flu is most often contracted by contact with sick birds and can also be passed from person to person.

The Ministry of Health here indicates there’s no need for any panic and it’s monitoring the situation closely.
