Bacol Hosted Media Conference On The Status Of Legal Action Filed At The CCJ To Compensate British American Policyholders

It’s been announced that British American Policy holders still waiting on compensation after its collapse have since filed a law suit the Caribbean Court of Justice against the Company,

The British American Insurance Company Limited and Colonial Life Insurance Company Limited Policy Holders Group (BACOL) as it’s called, today hosted a virtual Media Conference, in this regard, noting the status of the legal action filed earlier this month.

It’s in response to what the BACOL President, Dr. Patrick Antoine, says is the culmination of a long journey that began with the formation of grouping in 2015, after it emerged that British American policyholders in the OECS would not be offered compensation on par with that which was awarded to policyholders from other CARICOM nations, following the 2009 collapse of the insurance company.

Dr. Antoine says BACOL is in pursuit of fair and equitable compensation for British American Insurance Company policyholders and beneficiaries in seven OECS countries.

Dr. Antoine, spoke with confidence about the legal team, headed by Simon Davenport, Q.C.

Head of the legal team Simon Davenport, Q.C says he’s honored to be representing the BACOL group in such an important matter affecting so many people in the Eastern Caribbean.

The legal action filed represents Policyholders of British American Insurance Company Limited from Antigua/ Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Kitts/Nevis, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Registration of policyholders wishing to join the class action is already said to be underway, through a network of Case Managers located in every participating country.

BACOL is to hold a series of online town hall meetings to bring policyholders up-to-date on the lawsuit and to answer questions.
