TERMINATION OF WORKERS AT RADISSON GRENADA BEACH RESORT

The Bank and General Workers Union (BGWU), the Bargaining Agent for workers employed at Radisson Grenada Beach Resort, is fuming over the dismissal of seven workers of Radisson Grenada Beach Resort on Friday.

REPORT:

The Bank and General Workers Union has sent out a report highlighting concern over the fate of the workers who were attached to the Food and Beverage Department.

The workers are said to have complained to the Union about their termination, deemed with immediate effect.

The Company is said to have served notice to the 7 employees by way of letter to the Union dated April 17, 2024, which the Union said it received today.

The workers claimed they are being victimized, many with over two 2 years of service to the Resort and without prior offenses.

They accuse the Company of being singled out for this treatment, while there are some new workers with just months of service currently being employed.

The BGWU says many of those terminated have commitments to financial institutions, parents with children in school, mortgages etc., now, with no source of income.

The Bank and General Workers Union says it’s  deeply concerned with the current industrial climate at the Radisson Grenada Beach Resort and that there are a number of unresolved grievances between the Union on behalf of workers and the Management of the Resort.

Additionally, the BGWU outlines in a News release, that since 2013 the Company has avoided concluding Negotiations with the Union for a New Collective Agreement, which it says has denied the workers the right to Collective Bargaining and thereby depriving them of the benefits that should have been obtained for the last eleven 11 years.

The Union, citing the need for good industrial relations, is reported to have issued a call for the  Management of the Resort to engage it on the matter.
