STATEMENT CONDEMNING PRESS EXCLUSION FROM SWEARING OF NEW CABINET OF MINISTERS

The Media Workers Association of Grenada (MWAG) is not happy having been excluded from today’s swearing-in ceremony associated with the NDC Administration’s Cabinet Reshuffle.

In a dispatch during the week, the Government did indicate an invitation to the media for a News Conference tomorrow 10 in the morning addressing new portfolios assigned to members of Government.

All the Ministers involved in the reshuffle will be at the head table.

MWAG takes offense saying that the Government of Grenada has once again shown its total contempt for the local media, and by extension the people of the country, by completely barring reporters and photographers from the swearing-in of new Cabinet Ministers today.

In its release dispatched this afternoon, MWAG complained it’s the first time in the modern history of Grenada, a government has barred coverage by independent Press, of the swearing-in of members of the Cabinet of Ministers, and I quote, “treating it as if it is their private function”, Unquote.

It describes the development as “a dangerously new low” and a “wanton disrespect” of the media and calls for a full explanation as to the genesis of such decision and an appropriate apology.
