The history of Grenada continues to be a paramount feature as the country still goes through the paces of its year-long celebrations marking its 50thanniversary of Independence.

On this score, the highlight flashes back to the rule of Sir Eric Matthew Gairy, the Father of Independence, and the trials and tribulations of that era in breaking away from the clutches of British colonialism.

We’ve been looking at a special interview conducted by the Government Information Service with well-known Trade Unionist of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Joseph Burns Bonadie, versed in the development of the labour fraternity in the region.

He says the era was one where the leadership of the countries were very much entrenched in the Labour movement.

The same applied to Jamaica and here at home, with Sir Eric Gairy at the helm in the fight for better conditions for workers.

Bonadie says the relationship between the leadership of the countries and the trade union movement was very strong.
