August 26, 2019 – Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell, has welcomed the launch of the Six Senses La Sagesse hotel by Range Developments, as a sign of ongoing confidence in the Grenada economy. Speaking at Friday’s launch, Dr. Mitchell said, “The fact that Range Developments decided to make Grenada the home of its next luxury resort in the Caribbean provides a clear indication of the level of confidence in our country. A project of this magnitude means significant opportunities for our people. We thank Range Developments for choosing Grenada and we welcome them.

The Prime Minister noted that foreign investors will not come if they do not see local investment; therefore the fact that this international property developer is here, means local investors are themselves investing.

The location of the project in St. David’s will help to decentralize development in the hotel sector and Dr. Mitchell also welcomed this. He said, “Government is committed to ensuring that Grenada’s development is wholistic. Tangible benefits must be felt in all parts of the country. The luxury hotel in St. David’s will not only offer a viable option for visitors, it will also create significant employment opportunities for persons in the parish and surrounding areas.”

Dr. Mitchell, who is also the Minister for National Security, underscored the importance of Grenada’s relatively low crime rate. “Grenada is one of the safest countries and that is a significant motivating factor for tourists. Many visitors speak of Grenada being one of the most peaceful places; we should not take this for granted,” he said.

The luxury hotel will represent a major addition to Grenada’s room stock. Tourism Minister, Honourable Clarice Modeste-Curwen, and Minister for Trade, Industry, Cooperatives and CARICOM Affairs, Hon. Oliver Joseph, who is also the Parliamentary Representative for St. David’s, have also welcomed what they both termed, the historic project.

In his remarks at Friday’s ceremony, Managing Director of Range Developments, Mr. Mohammed Asaria, spoke of the transformational nature of the project and the potential for St. David’s to become Grenada’s second tourism capital.

Promising to create the unimaginable at La Sagesse, Mr. Asaria also commended developments in the tourism industry in recent years. He said, “Grenada’s tourism product has grown by leaps and bounds in a manner that cannot be compared to other islands in the Eastern Caribbean. Grenada is a beacon and Prime Minister Mitchell should be proud of his achievements.”

Actual construction of the Six Senses La Sagesse is expected to start by the end of this year and completion is expected in 2022.

The project is expected to create more than 500 jobs during the construction phase.
