Prime Minister, Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell, is pleased with the start of work on the Mt. Kumar bypass road which will provide an alternative route for motorists travelling from the western side of the island to the capital.
Since the slippage of the Moliniere road, traffic has been diverted through Mt. Moritz and part of Moliniere, however these roads were not designed as main arteries.
Dr. Mitchell says the start of the project represents the fulfilment of a Government promise to alleviate the challenges faced by commuters traversing that section of the country.
The road to be constructed will be much wider than the current options utilised by motorists plying that route, and as such it would reduce any inconvenience they face.
The Prime Minister commended the Ministry of Infrastructure Development for moving speedily to get the project started.
The project, expected to last for seven months, will entail the construction of 3,000 feet of asphalt road, appropriate drainage and a new bridge.
Gilbert and Partners Engineering Company Limited has been awarded the contract for the project and Gleans Construction and Engineering Company Grenada Limited is responsible for the engineering consultancy.
