Men Plead Guilty To Drug Charges

Two (2) men jointly charged with Trafficking in and Importation of a Controlled Drug in connection with a drug bust in 2019, today, (Friday 28th February, 2020) pleaded guilty at the Gouyave Magistrate’s Court.

On the charge of Trafficking of a Controlled Drug, Rylon Gunpot, 35 years of Corinth, St. David was fined $150-thousand dollars to be paid in one year and in default 4.5 years in prison while on the charge of Importation of a Controlled Drug he was placed on bond with a suspended sentence of 3.5 years; if found guilty for any offense within that time he will be sentenced to prison for two years.

Michael Marrast, 42 years, Mason of Upper St. John, St. Andrew was fined $100- thousand dollars to be paid in eight (8) month, in default four years imprisonment. On the charge of Importation of a Controlled Drug he was placed on bond with a suspended sentence of two (2) years and if found guilty for any offense within that time, imprisonment for one year.

The drug bust occurred on April 3rd 2019 when officers attached to Drug Squad intercepted a vehicle at St. Peters Street, Gouyave, St. John containing twelve nylon bags of cannabis weighing approximately 573-pounds, worth an estimated street value of $ 1,299,564.00.
