GRENADA JOINS IN ON THE OBSERVANCE OF UNITED NATION’S DAY TODAY

It’s United Nations Day today and Grenada, a member of the Global body, joined in on the occasion.

Government and other officials were present at a Flag-raising ceremony this morning at the cenotaph in the Botanical Gardens.

The theme for the day’s observance is “Equality, Freedom, and Justice for All”, which falls in line with the commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The day’s observance marked the coming into force of the UN Charter in 1945.

The ceremony here was attended by Government officials, UN representatives and members of civil society, students, other individuals, and which also had the involvement of the RGPF and the Grenada Cadet Corp.

On arrival of Prime Minister, Dickon Mitchell, at the ceremony, the flags of Grenada and the United Nations were hoisted.

Prime Mitchell also planted a tree in observance of the occasion.

Grenada signed on to the UN Charter on 17th September, 1974.

Addressing the audience at today’s ceremony, Foreign Minister, Joseph Andall, made note that Grenada remains committed to the principles and objectives of the UN Charter Foreign Minister Andall appealed for countries around the World to speed up implementation in meeting objectives associated with sustainable development goals.

Resident UN Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Dedier Trebuck, says since the signing of the UN Charter in 1945, the World has witnessed numerous changes but UN values remain intact.

He acknowledged the strides Grenada has made in adhering to the organization’s values.

Mr. Trebuck notes that there’s an active role for all in meeting the sustainable 2030 agenda set aside by the UN.
