A four-day Calypso workshop facilitated by Edison Francis “Teacher Eddie” and Kelly ClyneRootsman Kelly” geared at Primary and Secondary Schools students kicked off today.

The workshop is being held by the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture.

It’s geared to focus on the areas of presentation and performance, the history of calypso, the use of voice and composition techniques, and other topics.

The first session kicked off today at the Gouyave Pastoral Center in St. Johns for students within the parishes of St. John and St. Mark.

Berkley Braithwaite, the Calypso Tutor at the Ministry says he see this training as a stepping stone for young calypsonians.

The sessions will continue in the northern parish tomorrow, Brathwaite says at the end of this session he’s looking forward to having at least 10 students to nurture into this field.
