PR โ Democratic Peopleโs Movement (DPM) Leader Peter David has firmly stated that every cent of the monthly parliamentary allowance allocated to his constituency office has been properly accounted for, dismissing suggestions of any misuse of public funds and reaffirming his long-standing commitment to transparency and service.
David, speaking during a recent appearance on GBNโs โTo The Pointโโ, said the approximately $10,000 monthly allowance, provided through parliament for constituency assistance, is subject to strict reporting requirements and has been managed with complete accountability.
โAsk the Parliament of Grenadaโnot my officeโgo to the Parliament and ask them which offices are the ones that have been reporting diligently,โโ David stated.
The DPM leader explained that the funds are routinely used to assist constituents facing genuine hardships, including educational expenses, medical needs, housing repairs, and other emergencies. He emphasized that public assistance must be administered responsibly and transparently.
Addressing discussions circulating on social media, David said he could demonstrate how the funds have been spent but remains mindful of protecting the privacy and dignity of recipients.
โThe only reason I wonโt show it is because it would be showing the peopleโs names who receive it,โโ he said. โIf Iโm giving you something, I donโt have to go and publish it.โโ
David also noted that the parliamentary allowance represents only a fraction of the assistance he has provided to individuals and families over the years, saying โ$10,000 constitutes a small amount of what we help withโโ.
He said much of his support to constituents has come directly from his own personal resources.
โIโve done it over the years out of my pocket, and Iโm doing it out of my pocket still because I was brought up to believe that if we have, we should share with others,โโ explained David, a lawyer who also is Independent MP for the Town of St George.
Widely regarded as one of Grenadaโs most experienced political figures, David has maintained a reputation for financial accountability throughout his public life.
His name has never been linked to corruption scandals, and he has consistently advocated for integrity, transparency, and practical assistance to ordinary Grenadians.
โPoliticians like to tell people what they do for people too much,โโ David remarked. โIf youโre doing it, do it from your heart and genuinely try to solve peopleโs problems.โโ
