CHURCHES ACROSS THE WORLD CELEBRATES ASH WEDNESDAY

0

Churches worldwide, ย including those here in Grenada, commemorated the commencement of the Lenten Season, today commonly referred to as Ash Wednesday.

REPORT:

The day is marked with individuals attending church services to receive ashes on their foreheads as a symbol of penance.

For Christians, Lent signifies a period of fasting, moderation, and self-denial traditionally spanning forty days.

Individuals often practice eating sparingly or abstaining from specific habits during the Lenten period.

Officially termed the Day of Ashes, Ash Wednesday serves as a day of repentance, where Christians confess their sins and re-affirm their dedication to God.

While Lent spans 46 days, Sundays are excluded from the overall count, during which time, many opt to fast and to give up certain food and drink.

The observance of Lent extends to 40 days leading up to Easter.
