Well, over the past 50 years, our research takes us to record Grenada having 8 Prime Ministers after Sir Eric Matthew Gairy.

We highlight one of the longest-serving Prime Ministers, Dr. Keith Mitchell, who’s has served 21 of 40 unbroken Parliamentary years as Grenada’s Prime Minister.

Looking at the legacy of Sir. Eric Matthew Gairy, who endured the struggle for the country’s freedom out of the administrative shackles of the British colonial power, Dr. Mitchell remembers Sir Eric winning the support of the ordinary citizen for the compassion and love for the poor and less fortunate in the society.

Most of the ordinary people were subjected to plantation status, working on estates throughout the country.

Well, Dr. Mitchell was often being described as Sir Eric’s “political son”.

Dr. Mitchell, looks back, even at the time on his educational journey at the Presentation Brother’s College, indicating his admiration for the Father of the Nation and his charisma in the way he supported the poor and disadvantaged or less fortunate people.

It’s a trait Sir Eric cemented in his leadership deportment.

Political pundits were led to believe that Dr. Mitchell’s style of leadership was similar to that of the Father of the Nation and they may have had a special bond.
