Resident Ambassador in the Kingdom of Belgium, His Excellency Raphael Joseph, on Wednesday 22nd November 2023 signed the Samoa Agreement on behalf of the State of Grenada.

Head of Mission of four (4) other Member States: Burundi, Central African Republic, Niger and St. Kitts and Nevis also signed the Agreement, at the Headquarters of the Organization of African Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).

The Agreement represents the newest and most comprehensive partnership arrangement between the European Union (EU) member states and the 79 countries comprising the OACPS.

The Samoa Agreement covers co-operation over the next two decades including the promotion of social economic and cultural development of the ACP States with a view to contributing to peace and security and promoting a stable a democratic political environment in those countries.

The EU would provide the funding in the tune of billions of euros for all programs and projects relative to the Agreement.

Prior to this, there were the Lome’ Convention in four (4) editions from 1975 to 1999, followed by the Cotonou Agreement from 2000 2021.

Indeed, over the last 50 years Europe and in particular the European Union has been the most consistent and productive development partner of the countries in the ACP grouping.
