Five youth-led initiatives across Grenada have each been awarded $5,000.00 under the Ministry of Youth and Sportsโ€™ Community Grant Support Programme, aimed at empowering young people to lead positive change in their communities.

The programme, launched earlier this year, invited proposals from youth organisations and community groups with project ideas focused on themes such as community development, health
and wellness, youth empowerment, cultural preservation, and technology integration.

An independent selection committee, comprising representatives from key stakeholder groups,
assessed the submissions to ensure a transparent and merit-based process aligned with national
youth development goals.

The five approved projects are:

โ€ข SPYO Boys Leadership Camp โ€“ St. Patrickโ€™s Youth Organisation (St. Patrick East): A week-long residential camp offering mentorship, counselling, life skills, and team- building activities for young men, with a focus on emotional intelligence and community engagement.

โ€ข I Do Agri-Project โ€“ Preparation for Active Citizenship (St. John): A school-based programme teaching students aged 13โ€“17 climate-smart farming, food security practices, and entrepreneurship through hands-on training and agricultural internships.

โ€ข Gazebo Beautification at the Pediatric Ward โ€“ Leo Club of St. George (Town of St. George): A community service initiative enhancing the general hospitalโ€™s pediatric gazebo through landscaping, mural art, seating improvements, and inspirational quotes for a child-friendly environment.

โ€ข La Digue Playground Project โ€“ La Digue Sports and Development Organisation (St. Andrew Southwest): The creation of a new play area featuring swings, monkey bars, slides, and future additions such as a fishpond and picnic space to encourage safe recreational activity.

โ€ข St. Davidโ€™s Primary School Football Competition โ€“ St. David Sport Organisation (St. David): A grassroots football programme for primary schools promoting physical fitness, social skills, teamwork, and talent development among boys and girls.

As part of the programmeโ€™s accountability measures, all participating organisations are required
to complete mandatory project management training to ensure proper use of funds and successful
execution.

The ministry will soon open a second call for proposals for the remaining ten constituencies where
no project was selected. Interested groups are urged to begin planning their proposals in
accordance with the programmeโ€™s criteria.

The Community Grant Support Programme is one element of a broader youth empowerment
strategy led by the ministry. In addition, a special allocation is made for each National Youth
Parliamentarian and National Youth Ambassador Corps member to receive $5,000.00 in project
funding to implement initiatives within their respective constituencies.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports remains committed to building the leadership, capacity, and
civic engagement of young people as key drivers of national development.
