PR — The Government of Grenada has signed a new three-year Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Grenada Union of Teachers (GUT) covering the period January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2028, securing salary increases and improved benefits for teachers across the public education system.
The agreement provides a compounded salary increase of 4% in 2026, 4% in 2027, and 5% in 2028, continuing the Government’s policy of steady and sustainable improvements in public sector compensation.
This follows the previous negotiated settlement for 2023–2025, which delivered salary increases of 4%, 4%, and 5%, reflecting a continued commitment to improving public officers’ earnings while maintaining fiscal stability.
Eligible teachers will also continue to receive their annual salary increments each January, further strengthening take-home earnings throughout the life of the agreement.
Beyond wages, the agreement addresses several issues affecting the teaching profession and the learning environment, including:
- An annual $500 classroom materials allowance to support the purchase of teaching resources. • Expanded study leave and scholarship opportunities to support professional development. • Additional staffing support in special education and early childhood institutions.
- Recognition of technical and vocational certification, reinforcing the importance of TVET and modern skills within the education system.
The Government Negotiating Team noted that the agreement reflects constructive dialogue between the parties and represents the third major agreement concluded during the current negotiation cycle, following recent settlements with the Police and Prison services.
Government officials expressed appreciation to the leadership and membership of the Grenada Union of Teachers for their professionalism and commitment throughout the negotiation process. Both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening the education system and supporting the teachers who play a vital role in shaping Grenada’s future.
