PR – Project Officers under the Youth in Agriculture Program are currently over in the Sister Isles of (Carriacou & Petite Martinique) with the sole intention of engaging interested youth entrepreneurs under the Youth in Agriculture Program.
The Program which exposes young people to training modules in Crop Production, Livestock Management and Agro-processing was launched in February 2023 and to date has invested over US$2m as part of the sustainable development drive of the Agricultural sector.
Minister for Agriculture, Lands and Forestry, Lennox J. Andrews speaking at a recent MOU signing ceremony with key partners reiterated Government’s commitment to attracting young people into the Agricultural sector.
“We have placed tremendous emphasis on youth involvement in Agriculture, and this Government will continue to invest without hesitation as we firmly believe that Agriculture plays a key role in national Development and subsequently poverty reduction”
The Program funded by CARICOM Development Fund and the Government of Grenada is rolled out in partnership with the National Training Agency, the Grenada Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) and the Grenada Development Bank, catering for young person between the age of 18 to 35.
Project Manager, Cindy Lewis disclosed that sixty-four persons on the mainland have so far completed the three-phase module and are currently undergoing assessment and verification leading to certification under the National Training Agency. “This project is designed to safeguard the future development of the agricultural sector not by merely telling them to get involved but by ensuring that young persons are given the necessary exposure and training to keep them involved in the long run” according to Ms. Lewis. “We want to ensure that the sector is revolving on both young and Senior farmers thereby cementing sustainability”
The initiation exercise in Carriacou will be conducted at the Mermaid Conference Room, following which the team will proceed to site visits to various farms. Field visits will be conducted in Petite Martinique on Friday 7 November, 2025.
Following Completion of the Training Modules, participants will have access to loans and grant funding to launch their long-term dreams as Agricultural Entrepreneurs.
