TRAINING FOR DIRECTORS OF PUBLIC SECTOR INSTITUTIONS ACCELERATES

“This Government is committed to the reform of our Statutory Bodies and State-Owned Enterprises to ensure that they deliver their mandate in a professional, efficient, and effective manner.” This was the assertion of Minister for Finance Hon. Dennis Cornwall as he addressed the 7th Cohort of Directors’ Education and Accreditation Program (DEAP), on May 19 – 21, 2025, at the Coyaba Beach Resort conference room.
The advanced director training course, facilitated by the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange (ECSE) and the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada (CGIC), is being delivered on a rolling basis to all statutory bodies and state-owned enterprises, focusing on the areas of Governance for Directors, Finance
for Directors, and Strategy and Risk Management.
Advisor to the Ministry of Finance Mr Richard Duncan said that the course will “ensure that directors of public sector institutions are adequately trained to develop or hone the requisite skill sets, enabling them to effectively exercise the degree of professional oversight required of state-owned entities.” The DEAP provides a forum for a frank, incisive and insightful discussion on key aspects of governance standards and principles, including the duties and responsibilities of a director and the legal ramifications of being a director. In addition, the sharply focused programme leads to the designation of ‘Accredited Director,’ which is an internationally recognised accreditation, issued by the CGIC.
Having commenced in February 2023, as of March 2025, a total of one hundred and forty-nine (149) persons have now been trained and qualified as accredited directors. This 7th cohort will bring the total to one hundred and seventy-four (174), at a total investment of eight hundred and twenty thousand dollars
($820,000.00).
The 7th cohort of twenty-five (25) directors who undertook the training include members from the following statutory bodies and state-owned enterprises:
· Grenada Solid Waste Management Authority (GAMA)
· Grenada Electricity Services Limited (GRENLEC)
· Aviation Service of Grenada (ASG)
