Geneva, Switzerland – Grenada is proudly showcasing its rich cultural heritage and globally recognized products at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Assemblies, marking a historic moment for the nation’s creative economy and international branding.

This year’s participation highlights Grenada’s commitment to promoting its Geographical Indications (GIs) and intellectual property (IP) assets, while celebrating the creativity, the resilience of its people and Soca music.

This milestone reflects Grenada’s growing leadership in the global IP and creative economy space. By protecting and promoting its unique products and cultural expressions, the country is preserving its heritage while unlocking new opportunities for trade, tourism, and innovation.

Grenadian Soca artiste Jevaughn “V’ghn” John has been appointed as the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) newest IP Youth Ambassador, making history as the first Caribbean national to receive this global honor.

This appointment is celebrated not only as a personal achievement but also as a milestone for Grenada’s creative economy and cultural diplomacy.

On July 14, 2025, V’ghn delivered a high-energy performance at WIPO Headquarters in Geneva as part of the Spotlight showcase and cocktail event in celebration of Grenada’s 50th Anniversary of Independence. The event marked the first time Soca music was featured at the WIPO Assemblies, and V’ghn’s performance was described as electrifying and deeply symbolic.

V’ghn’s journey to this global platform is rooted in a deep understanding of the music industry and his dedication to his artform. From his early days performing in Grenada, he has consistently emphasized the importance of owning and protecting creative work.

“This is a proud moment for Grenada,” said Sen. The Hon. Claudette Joseph, Minister for Legal

Affairs. “We are showcasing not just products, but our creativity, our resilience, and our identity.”  With the support of the CARIFORUM Intellectual Property Rights and Innovation (CarIPI) project and the World Intellectual Property Organization Grenada is currently securing Geographical Indication (GI) status for its nutmeg and cocoa. This GI status will protect the identity of our cocoa and nutmeg, enhance their market value, and provide better economic opportunities for local farmers.
