GRENADIAN TRAFFICKERS ON THE MARY G VESSEL HELD UP IN VENEZUELA ON THEIR WAY BACK HOME

Traffickers aboard the Mary G vessel which was held up in Margarita are said to be on their way back home.

The vessel, as we understand it, has been released after several days of ordeal with Margaritan authorities.

The Mary G and the traffickers were on their way back from Trinidad last Thursday when the engine failed causing the vessel to drift aimlessly and with the call for help, the Venezuelan Coast Guard responded promptly and guided the vessel to Margarita.

The traffickers complained of their dilemma not being able to disembark and that caused some discomfort, with supplies, water and food running low.

A relative of the captain of the vessel turned to social media for the authorities to offer some help.

Foreign Minister, Joseph Andall, noted making diplomatic contacts with his Venezuelan counterpart, in search of a solution.

It’s understood that after negotiations between the Venezuelan and Grenadian authorities, an agreement was reached, exempting the 49,000 US-dollar towing fee.

The vessel has been released and it’s reported that the captain and crew will soon be home.
