Looking at the game in the West Indies, one-time National cricketer, Grenada’s Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Mitchell, believes the use of promising and talented players over multiple formats could prove a hindrance in their future development.

He’s been watching the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, and Shai Hope, who lead a group of the next generation of talented Windies players, play both the 50 over and T/20 formats or all three.

The general belief is that the evolution of the sport has offered different advantages to players taking part in multiple formats…particularly, the lucrative T/20 format, which offers major cash incentives.

Mitchell, however, believes it could prove damaging to young players still honing their craft.

Dr. Mitchell says he’s been watching from the sidelines and it’s something selectors must take a look at.
