Governor General, Dame Cecile La Grenade, extends her condolences on the passing in England of Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

He died this morning at age 99.

Dame Cecile says his life of service will be remembered, not only for the time he served in the Navy during World War 2, or for his service to the Commonwealth, but most importantly, for his steadfast and loyal devotion to Her Majesty the Queen.

She says Prince Phillip was no stranger to Grenada, noting his last visit in 1985, where his impact was felt by young and also loved by the young people of the Commonwealth, through the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Dame Cecile went on to indicate that the extraordinary of service, much like his life, would have inspired the Nation’s youth and played a significant role in their personal development , for which Grenada owes a profound debt of gratitude to the late Prince Phillip.
