Grenada Transport Commission Continues Spice School Bus Pilot Program

0

The Grenada Transport Commission  Spice Schools Bus Pilot Program, launched earlier this year is continuing into its final two and a half months.

The pilot is designed to transform student transport by making it safer, more reliable, and more  affordable for families. These final months allow for additional monitoring, fine-tuning, and  engagement with students, parents, and schools to ensure the program’s long-term success.

The Innovative Passenger Information System (PIS)

A key feature of the pilot is the integration of the Passenger Information System (PIS), which  provides real-time updates on bus routes, schedules and student movements. This technology  improves accountability, efficiency and communication with parents and schools, reinforcing the  program’s commitment to safety and reliability.

National Benefits to Grenada

The Spice Schools Bus Pilot is more than a transportation project; it is a national investment with  benefits that extend across Grenada:

  • Reduced traffic congestion around schools during peak hours.
  • Lower emissions and environmental impact by reducing the number of private vehicles on  the road.
  • Economic relief for families by lowering transportation costs.
  • Improved student punctuality and performance, supporting Grenada’s educational  outcomes.
  • Foundation for modern public transport systems, positioning Grenada as a regional leader  in sustainable mobility.

Community Partnership and National Roll-Out

“Our children are our most precious passengers,” said Mr. David Bartholomew, Chief Executive  Officer of the Grenada Transport Commission. “As the Spice School Bus Pilot Program continues,  we are not only giving students a safer and more reliable way to get to school but also laying the  groundwork for a stronger national transport system that benefits all Grenadians.”

The final evaluation of the Spice Schools Bus Pilot Program will provide critical insights to better  inform the intended national roll-out of a structured school transport program across Grenada. Parents, students, and the public are encouraged to continue sharing feedback throughout this phase. The GTC has set up a dedicated feedback line at 473-439-0482| Email:  services@transport.gd.
