Grenada Politician Caught Up In Drug Bust

A Grenada politician caught up in a drug bust Friday appeared in court this morning, jointly charged with two other men.

Appearing in Court this morning, Basil Williams who contested the last general election as a candidate for the Progress Party, was charged with conspiracy to trafficking a controlled drug and was granted bail to the tune of fifteen thousand dollars bail with two sureties.

Williams was charged jointly along with 44-year-old Bus Driver, Branford Thomas of Bonair, St. Mark, and 26-year-old Radio DJ, Brian Charles of Woodlands, St. George.

They all appeared in the St. Georgeโ€™s Magistratesโ€™ court this morning.

The charges were laid following the discovery by Customs Officials of a quantity of compressed cannabis inside a barrel at the Maurice Bishop International Airport.

The cannabis was found inside a bag of cat food during a search of the barrel which arrived here from the United States.

The three men are also instructed to surrender all travel documents.ย
