PR โ The Government of Grenada on Monday December 15 officially launched the Ministry of the Blue Economy and Marine Affairs, on board the Esta Sea marking a major step toward sustainable ocean development and economic transformation.
This new Ministry represents a strategic investment in Grenadaโs future. By prioritizing the Blue Economy, Grenada signals its readiness to lead in building a sustainable, inclusive, and forward looking ocean economyโone that creates jobs, strengthens food and energy security, enhances climate resilience, and promotes social equity while safeguarding marine resources.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister, Honourable Dickon Mitchell highlighted, โThis Ministry will ensure that Grenadaโs ocean space becomes a driver of innovation, prosperity, and resilience for generations to come. The Blue Economy represents a new frontier for economic growth and sustainable development. Our waters are not just geographyโthey are jurisdiction, responsibility, and opportunity.โ
He added: โThis new Ministry sits at the intersection of environment, economy, and national development. But let me be clearโthe Blue Economy is not the responsibility of one ministry alone. It is a whole-of-government and whole-of-society effort, deeply integrated into our macroeconomic planning, education system, and security posture.โ

Strengthening Maritime Security
Recognizing that ocean-based industries require stability, the Government has committed to strengthening maritime security. In the 2026 Budget Debate, the Minister of Finance announced plans to acquire a new Coast Guard vessel to:
โข Deter illegal fishing and marine pollution
โข Enforce maritime boundaries
โข Improve search and rescue operations
โข Build investor confidence in Grenadaโs ocean space
Building Talent for the Future
The Ministry will thrive on talent, not just resources. Grenada will expand training and employment opportunities in:

โข Marine biotechnology
โข Digital fisheries monitoring
โข Offshore energy maintenance
โข Maritime law and logistics
Through TVET reform, university partnerships, and entrepreneurship support, the Government aims to create a pipeline of skilled professionals ready to lead in ocean innovation
