The Grenada Hotel & Tourism Associationย (GHTA) is proud to announce a landmark donation of $486,000 EC through its Tourismย Enhancement Fund (TEF) to the Grenada Solid Waste Management Authority (GSWMA) forย the acquisition of a state-of-the-art, commercial-grade glass pulverizer system. This donation, the largest financial contribution ever made to GSWMA, signifies a significantย commitment to enhancing waste management and promoting sustainability in Grenada.
The donation aims to address the pressing need for effective glass recycling solutions onย the island, facilitating the reduction of glass waste and supporting the overall goal of aย cleaner, greener Grenada. The new glass crusher will not only streamline the recyclingย process but also contribute to the development of sustainable practices within the tourismย industry and beyond.
Arlene Friday, CEO of GHTA, expressed her enthusiasm about the donation, stating, โThisย substantial investment in the glass crusher represents our unwavering commitment toย environmental stewardship and sustainable tourism. The donation was announced during a ceremony held at GSWMA Queens Park on Marchย 11th, attended by key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors as well asย secondary students. The event featured remarks from various dignitaries, includingย Senator Salim Rahaman, Private Sector Parliamentary Representative, and Elvis Lewis,ย President of GHTA, who both underscored the importance of partnerships in advancingย sustainable waste management practices and leaving a lasting impact for futureย generations. It also featured representatives from the Ministry of Climate Resilience, Ms.ย Samara Burris, Communications Specialist and the Ministry of Tourism, Ms. Naline Joseph,ย Tourism Advisor.
Lyndon Charles, Integrated Resource Manager at GSWMA, shared insights on theย anticipated impact of the Glass Pulverizer System, emphasizing its potential toย revolutionize glass recycling in Grenada. โThis donation will empower us to significantlyย enhance our recycling capabilities, reduce landfill waste, and contribute to a moreย sustainable environment,โ he stated.
The ceremony culminated in the unveiling of the project design and a formal checkย presentation, solidifying the commitment to a greener future for Grenada. It was followedย by a vote of thanks from GSWMA Communications Officer, Myrna Julien who thankedย GHTA for their impactful donation.
