ELECTRICITY SUPPLY COMPANY SAYS GENERATOR OVERHEATING AT CARRIACOU POWER PLANT FORCED OUT OF SERVICE

0

GRENLEC, the countryโ€™s lone electricity supply company, says last evening, the generator that had been overheating at the Carriacou Power Plant was forced out of service because of further technical difficulties.ย

REPORT:

GRENLEC says the unit thatโ€™s temporarily out of service is the larger of the two generators that had been supplying electricity to the Island, in the aftermath of the fire at the Plant on the 28th of last month.ย

GRENLEC says the loss of additional generation resulted in an islandwide outage and the new development means that the load shedding schedule published by the Company will not be implemented.

Instead, GRENLEC, in its update, says electricity will be rotated to different parts of the island, with priority being

given to emergency facilities and commercial centres.ย

Wallace Collins, Carriacou and Petite Martinique Branch Manager, indicated, โ€œAdditional technical resources have been mobilised to assist with resolving the issues on the generator, so as to restore service to more customersโ€.

Grenlec officials are now awaiting verification on whether the containerized rental unit from neighboring Trinidad will make a shipment this week.

Extending apologies to customers for the latest events, and Mr. Collins notes, โ€œIn the meantime, Grenlec is exploring other options for more immediate relief for customers in Carriacouโ€.
