I categorically and unequivocally reject the recent claim, published in a local newspaper, that I am being considered as a candidate to contest the Town of St. George seat for a political party in the upcoming elections. This report is entirely false.
This particular publication has, on several occasions, carried unfounded stories with the clear intent of tarnishing my character, none of which have ever proven true. Its repeated disregard for accuracy reveals a pattern of mischief rather than responsible journalism. For this reason, I have previously chosen not to dignify such reports with a response.
However, on this occasion I am compelled to speak, as I view this latest fabrication as a deliberate attempt to distract from the serious national issues I have been raising; particularly the bill currently under discussion, which threatens parental rights and risks undermining the foundation of the family. Instead of addressing the concerns being raised by thousands of committed parents nationally; this malicious attempt of discrediting the messenger has been deployed.
I have consistently spoken on matters of national concern, regardless of which party is in office. I remain unapologetic in my stance for what is right and in the best interest of the Grenadian people. No amount of political maneuvering will silence my voice on behalf of those who are not being heard. My independence is of great value to me, as it allows me to address issues objectively and free from partisan influence.
As a Bishop, my first and highest commitment is to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to the mission of making disciples, for He alone is the hope of our nation and of the world.
I also wish to acknowledge the many remarkable journalists in our country who uphold the highest standards of their profession and who, over the years, have brought truthful and unbiased reporting to the public. To those engaged in writing for this particular publication, I urge you to adopt a higher standard of integrity and responsibility. The people of Grenada deserve journalism that is grounded in truth, that seeks the national interest, and that promotes national unity rather than divisiveness and political tribalism.
Bishop Dr. Devon Rachae
