PR – The Democratic People’s Movement (DPM) has officially intensified its campaign to secure the St. George South-East seat, with potential candidate Pastor Stanford Simon launching a series of community meetings across the constituency.
Speaking at a packed public meeting, Pastor Simon made a bold opening commitment: “If I am elected your representative, one of the things I will work hard to see happen is the reopening of the healthcare centre here in LaBorie. It is critically important for us.”
The LaBorie Health Centre has been closed for some time, with no clear explanation, leaving residents without easy access to primary healthcare services.
Simon expressed shock at the situation, stating, “You can’t tell me why it is not open; something is wrong with that picture, because if we are going to be successful, we cannot do it with our people being unhealthy.”
Widely regarded as a respected and reliable community figure, Simon stressed his lifelong devotion to service and unanimity.
“I’m here to serve you and to make a difference if given the opportunity,” he told constituents. “I’m a strong believer in bringing people together; I’ve worked very hard to ensure that people come together.’’
In remarks, DPM Leader Peter David reinforced the Movement’s message of unity and national development.
“The only way this country will develop is if we come together as a people, not remain divided,” David said. “All of us face the same problems—high prices, lack of opportunities, difficulty accessing capital—and we must solve them together.”
David, an Independent Member of Parliament, also highlighted systemic challenges facing young people. “Why is it so difficult for young people to get financing to start businesses? These are the real issues we must address,’’ he emphasized.
The DPM says its stepped-up campaign in St. George South-East will concentrate on practical solutions, public participation, and restoring necessary services—such as healthcare—to the people.
