Hon. Joseph Andall, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Tradeย and Export Development, and Hon. Philip Telesford, Minister for Health, joined members of the Nigerian community residing in Grenada, to officially welcome a team of Nigerian medical professionals at a ceremony, held at Coyaba Beach Resort on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
The medical team, deployed through the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), includes twoย Nephrologists, two Anesthesiologists, and one Orthopedic specialist. These experts will join theย outstanding staff at the General Hospital, as part of a wider strategy by the Government of Grenada to enhance healthcare access and improve health outcomes across the nation.
Over the years, Grenada has benefited from international partnerships, including the deploymentย of a medical team from Palestine in 2024 and the ongoing support from the Republic of Cuba,ย which continues to provide medical professionals to strengthen our healthcare workforce. Theย arrival of the Nigerian specialists further underscores the Governmentโs determination to closeย critical gaps in specialist care and upgrade the countryโs clinical capacity. Their arrival also comesย at an opportune time, following Grenadaโs successful hosting of the 4th Annual AfriCaribbeanย Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF2025), which further strengthened ties between Africa andย the Caribbean.
Minister Andall extended sincere gratitude to Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, Director-General ofย NTAC, for his swift response to Grenadaโs request for assistance. He emphasised the significanceย of this partnership, noting: โWe recognise the problem, and the Government of Grenada is takingย concrete steps to fix a broken healthcare system. Both the Government and the Ministry of Healthย give the firm commitment to work with international collaborators to improve the quality,ย accessibility, and resilience of healthcare services across the countryโ.
In alignment with this initiative, the Government continues to actively pursue fundingย opportunities for the construction of a modern teaching hospital, an investment that is expected toย strengthen both service delivery and medical training in Grenada.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to play a vital role in supporting national developmentย through strategic diplomacy. By forging bilateral partnerships and technical cooperation
agreements, the Ministry has helped secure international resources to advance key nationalย priorities, including health, education, and infrastructure. These efforts underscore Grenadaโsย proactive approach to global engagement and its dedication to sustainable national transformation.
The Nigerian professionals were encouraged to explore Grenadaโs cultural richness and naturalย beauty while contributing their expertise. Their presence reflects not only the strength of Grenadaโ Nigeria relations, but also the Governmentโs commitment to responsive governance and fosteringย meaningful international cooperation.
