The Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) is currently investigating the cause of a bush fire that destroyed approximately ten acres of land, mainly cultivated with sugar cane, on Wednesday, 25th February 2026, at La Calome, St. David.
At approximately 10:09 p.m. officers attached to the Fire Department responded to a report of a bush fire. Upon arrival, they observed flames and smoke emanating from a cane field, which had spread to several clumps of bamboo. The fire crew acted swiftly for approximately four hours, utilizing over 6,000 gallons of water to contain and extinguish the blaze.
On Thursday, 26th February 2026, at 4:48 a.m., another report was received of the reignition of the fire, which posed no significant threat. The fire crew promptly responded, monitoring the affected area to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and there was no further risk of the fire spreading.
