CARICOM doing more to
administer regional integration will
according to Grenada’s Prime
Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas be
among issues raised at the thirtieth
regular meeting of the CARICOM Heads
of Government in Georgetown,
Guyana.
Prime Minister
Tillman Thomas is accompanied
by Minister for Foreign Affairs and
Tourism, Peter David, Foreign
Service Officer, Cyrilla Steele and
Ken Sylvester, Chief Executive
Officer of the Caribbean Knowledge
and Learning Network (CKLN).
High on the agenda
for the four day meeting will be the
impact on and response to the global
financial and economic crisis, with
Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham of
the Bahamas addressing developments
in tourism, host President Bharat
Jagdeo focusing on agriculture and
Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer of
Antigua and Barbuda addressing
regional food security.
Prime Minister is
expected to raise the issue of
CARICOM playing a greater in
ensuring regional integration.
The Prime Minister
will also address the need for a
coordinated position on climate
change ahead of the international
negotiations in Copenhagen, Denmark
which is expected to culminate in a
new intergovernmental regime to
address causes and impacts of
Climate Change.
The Prime Minister’s
position is bolstered by the fact
that Grenada chairs the Association
of Small Island States (AOSIS),
which is pushing for greater
commitment from developed countries
on the reduction of green house gas
emissions, thereby slowing the
effects of Climate change.
As a result of the
attendance of Grenada’s delegation
to the Meeting of CARICOM Heads in
Guyana, Minister for Agriculture,
Hon. Michael Denis Lett has been
appointed as Acting Prime Minister,
Minister for Health, Hon Karl Hood
is acting Foreign Minister and Hon.
Glynis Roberts has been appointed
acting Tourism Minister

Agriculture Senator.
Keith Clouden has congratulated the
CARICOM Heads participating in the
Guyana Summit.
Clouden through a
congratulatory message sent today
further called on the heads to
revisit the generous proposal made
by the Guyanese President in a
previous heads of Government
Conference, to make lands available
from the vast resources of his
country for the purpose of
agricultural farming in a bid to
combat the high regional food import
bill and to develop a sustainable
food security base in the region.

Grenada remains one
of the fortunate Caribbean islands
which has no known cases of the H1NI
flu virus and health officials are
doing all in their power to ensure
it stays that way.
Acting Medical
Director at the General Hospital is
calling on Grenadians to adhere to
the health instructions set out for
them regarding the virus.
Dr. Margaret Adilly
is stressing the importance of
proper, simple, everyday practices
like washing hands.

The hard work of
students in the schools gardening
and poultry competition was rewarded
at a ceremony on Friday.
The competitions were
run by the Agricultural Science Unit
within the Curriculum Department of
the Ministry of Education and Human
Resource Development.

Preparations are said
to be well advanced for the hosting
of the 22nd Annual OECS Bridge
Tournament which is carded to take
place at the Flamboyant Hotel from
10 – 12 July, 2009.
The event is expected
to attract bridge players from all
over the Caribbean.
Over 70 participants
are expected from Antigua, Anguilla,
Barbados, Dominica, Martinique, St.
Kitts/Nevis, St. Lucia, and Trinidad
and Tobago with the Grenada Bridge
Club to register about fourteen
players.
The major attraction of the
Tournament will be the OECS
Championship played between the OECS
countries.
The defending OECS
Bridge Champion is the team from
Antigua, and the determination to
win the 2009 trophy will be fierce.
Apart from the OECS Bridge
Championship, there will be several
other competitions played as a part
of the Tournament including the Open
Teams Championship, the Open Pairs
Championship and the Swiss
Championship.
The games will begin at 2 p.m. on
Friday, 10th July and will be
declared open by Lady Oris Graham,
the founder of the Grenada Bridge
Club.
The tournament ends on Sunday 12th
July with a lunch and prize giving
ceremony.

With just two days to
go, Organizer of the “Legends in
Concert” show is warning patrons of
an internet scam involving the sale
of bogus tickets for the planned
show.
Promoter of the show
Godfrey Augustine in a WEEFM
interview said the persons running
the scam have not received any
authorization to sell tickets.
Augustine said they
became aware of the scam on
Wednesday.
The promoter is
encouraging everyone to attend the
show, which he says will be an
unforgettable experience.
The show is carded to
start promptly at 7:30pm on Saturday
at the Grenada Trade Center.
