One of Grenada’s most popular politicians says he has not yet decided whether to run in general elections expected to be held next month.
“Truthfully, I have been considering not running. But, I will know this week,’’ MP Peter David is quoted as saying in an exclusive interview published in this week’s edition of Caribupdate Weekly, which is now on newsstands and on the streets.
David is completing his second consecutive term as parliamentary representative for the Town of St. George.
He is a former Foreign Affairs and Tourism Minister, who resigned last April from the current National Democratic Congress administration led by Prime Minister Tillman Thomas.
For almost a decade, David served as NDC general secretary.
Caribupdate Weekly describes David as “the main architect of the 2008 National Democratic Congress victory as its chief co-coordinating strategist and top fundraiser;’’ as well as the person who “helped breathe new life’’ into the NDC after it failed to win a parliamentary seat in election in 2009.
David, now no longer part of the NDC, says he has been consulting with his constituents about the upcoming elections. Some are urging him to contest the polls; others are telling him to sit out.
“If you ask me, I am more out than in. However, it is not just entirely about me,’’ David told Caribupdate Weekly.
His biggest concern, he said, is continuing to help “less advantaged people,’’ as well as “consolidating politically and conserving resources’’ for participation in the election campaign of 2018.
Parliament was dissolved on Wednesday and Prime Minister Tillman is soon expected to announce the 2013 an election date.
Many speculate that the date will be revealed Sunday at an NDC rally in the Parish of St. Patrick.
